Welcome to VU Students Guide. This privacy policy describes how we collect, use, and handle your information when you use our mobile application. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring a safe experience.

Unofficial Status: Please note that this application is an unofficial educational tool and is not affiliated with the Virtual University of Pakistan.

1. Information We Collect

With the introduction of User Accounts in Version 2.1.0, we now collect limited personal information to provide personalized features.

A. Personal Information (App Account)

When you register for an account within the app, we collect the following data via Supabase Authentication:

• Full Name: To display on your Profile and the Leaderboard.
• Email Address: Used for secure login, account recovery, and unique identification.

This information is used strictly to maintain your user profile, track your leaderboard points, and manage your posted reviews.

B. Log Data & Device Info

In the case of an error in the app, we may collect data and information (through third-party products like Google Play Services) on your phone called Log Data to help us fix bugs. This may include your device model, operating system version, and the time of the error.

2. LMS Feature vs. App Account

It is important to distinguish between your App Account and your University LMS Account:

• App Account: The email/password you use to log in to VU Students Guide is stored securely on our backend (Supabase).
• LMS Access (WebView): The "LMS Portal" feature in the app loads the official university website (vulms.vu.edu.pk) via an Android WebView. We do NOT save, record, or store your official LMS Password or Student ID. When you log in to the LMS, you are interacting directly with the university's server.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use the collected data for the following purposes:

• To provide and maintain the Service (e.g., saving your CGPA goals).
• To manage your account and registration.
• To enable interactive features like the Leaderboard and Paper Reviews.
• To provide customer support.

4. Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party services to operate the app:

• Supabase: For secure database hosting, authentication, and user data storage.
• Mega.nz: Used for hosting study material files (handouts, past papers).
• Google Play Services: For app distribution and core functionality.

5. Data Retention & Deletion Rights

We retain your personal data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy.

Your Right to Delete: If you wish to delete your account and all associated data (including your leaderboard rank and reviews), you may request this at any time by contacting us at the email below. We will delete your data from our servers within 30 days of the request.

6. Security of Your Data

The security of your data is important to us. All communication between the app and our servers (Supabase) is encrypted using HTTPS (SSL/TLS). However, remember that no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. You are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
